The new movie form director Tim Burton, Alice in Wonderland, premiered on Thursday and until Friday in USA it has earned $41 million in ticket sales. The Walt Disney release could potentially have $120 million this weekend.
Playing at 3,728 theaters, Alice in Wonderland, a 3D version of the classic tale, scored a superb average of $10,998 per theater after being boosted by a solid marketing campaign.
How high Alice in Wonderland can go will depend on if it can get any Saturday bump and if it loses any audience at all Sunday night to the 82nd Academy Awards.
