Columbia will restart the Spider-Man saga in 2012 without Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst
This is a black day for Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and the actual Spider-Man franchise.
Columbia Pictures wants to restart / reboot Spider-Man, with a new story, actors, director, etc in 2012.
Spider-Man has not been able to bridge some irreconcilable differences to make Spider-Man 4 a reality. Columbia announced yesterday that Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst (the director and stars of one of the highest-grossing comicbook film franchises in history) have all been dropped. Producers now plan to reboot the series with a new director and cast and take Peter Parker, the superhero’s alter ego, back to school.
Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced they are moving forward with a film based on a script by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) that focuses on a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.
The new chapter in the “Spider-Man” franchise produced by Columbia, Marvel Studios and Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will have a new cast and film-making team. Spider-Man 4 was to have been released in 2011, but had not yet gone into production.
This a huge WTF and a very sad news, it wasn’t necessary to redo this film, Tobey Maguire was perfect for the role, I can’t imagine another person doing as Spider-Man and it probably will be a huge mistake. We will see in time.
